The ball has dropped and intentions have been set to make lasting improvements to your body, mind and spirit in 2017. And while saving a bit more money and exercising a few more times a week are wonderful goals for the coming months, the new year is also a great time to begin planning a remodel in your home.
Close your eyes and visualize how you want your home to feel next Thanksgiving or Christmas holiday. Do you envision exotic granite countertops in your master bathroom or creamy Alabama White marble in your kitchen? Then this is the time to start making your dream home come to life. And if you start planning now, your home will be perfect for in-laws and holiday guests come November!
No matter where you are in your home remodeling journey, we hope these remodeling resolutions will inspire you and help set your expectations for the coming year!
#1: I WILL GIVE MY KITCHEN A FRESH LOOK
A kitchen renovation resolution may seem a little ambitious at first, but remodeling “the heart of the home” has lasting benefits for you and your family. Not only does a fresh new kitchen encourage more cooking at home (say hello to saving more money and eating healthier!), but it also has a huge return on investment. Kitchens up your home’s value in resale and ultimately pay for themselves in time. If you’re not ready to go all in with a complete renovation, start small. Replace your dull countertops with an exciting countertop material or color that brings interest to your space. Countertop installations require little demolition and create less mess than a total overhaul of your space! You can view our gorgeous selection of quartz, granite, marble, travertine, onyx and more on our website under products!
#2: I WILL FINALLY UPDATE THE MASTER
Gold fixtures, forest green tiles, corner jacuzzi tubs that take up too much space… sound familiar? If your master bath still looks like it’s stuck in the ‘90s, then it may be time to start updating! Much like a kitchen remodel, master bathrooms hold a lot of value, especially in resale. Even if you’re not planning to sell this year (or in the near future), a functional and spacious master bathroom never hurt anyone!
We know that bathroom renovations can get expensive quickly. Our suggestion is to make small changes over time. Maybe you start by simply installing new faucets, knobs and towel bars in a trendy dark metallic or stainless steel and gradually add a few new coordinating accessories. If your fixtures don’t need updating, you can opt to update the floors or change out the countertops on the vanity. Installing a granite or marble truly pays off in the long run, and gives your space a sleek, modern look.
#3: I WILL HOME DETOX AND GET ORGANIZED
Nothing is worse than a messy home. From chaotic closets to the junk drawers in every room, vow to spend this year organizing your home and finding a place for all of your things. Decluttering can do wonders for your home, so start with one room or area of your house and begin by trashing anything that doesn’t hold beauty, significance of purpose. Begin with areas that tend to accumulate junk and miscellaneous items, like the laundry room shelves or your office countertops. We know it’s tough to get rid of your stuff, but there are so many trivial items that are not worth saving (we promise you do not need all those spare buttons “just in case”). For those of you who are serious about organizing, we recommend a quick read of The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. Your mindset regarding clutter will be transformed! Once you have rummaged through those shelves and drawers and cleared out what you do not need, it’s time to tackle how you will store the things you do keep. Gallery shelves with a marble backsplash are a great way to show off sentimental items, while installing storage shelves and drawers are great for hiding items for a more tidy space.
We hope that these resolutions will bring you closer to the home of your dreams. If you are ready to take a leap in your home projects, give us a call or contact us and we will be happy to assist you!
